Everyday students will be expected to read for 20 minutes at home with you. This is very important for them to become a strong reader. I expect students to practice their math skills everyday by incorporating them into everyday life. Does your child help you in the kitchen measure ingredients? Does your child tell time? Does your child count money? Try to see how many times in a day you use your math skills. There is some more specific information in the math and language arts section of this website.
Every Friday your child will bring home their "Home Journal," this is designed for you to see how your child is progressing, and to give you a weekly sample of their work. Please make sure that you write back to them, as this helps to encourage their writing. This journal will not be marked or checked for spelling or grammar, so that students feel confident and free to write. If you are not sure what they have written, please have them read it to you! From time to time, students may be expected to complete some work at home. If students need some more time to complete an assignment, either because they were away, they just took a bit of extra time, or because they did not make effective use of class time, I may be referring them to the homework room which takes place at recess, in order to make sure that they do not fall behind.
